Hi, my name is Kenneth Berger, a South Carolina personal injury lawyer. I handle life-changing injuries and wrongful death cases across the state of South Carolina and made this video to address what you need to know about medical care after a car accident. So, a lot of times people ask us what doctor do they need to see after an accident. My answer is always the same: whatever is best for your health, whatever is medically necessary, that's what you should do. No decisions about health care should ever be made based on a legal case alone. So if your needs are urgent and you need to go to an emergency room, go to an emergency room. If urgent care or a primary care doctor will do, then great. It may be that primary care doctor that can refer you to a specialist.
The specialist, be it a back specialist; brain specialist; knees; shoulders; whatever it may be; a lot of times specialists are better equipped or best equipped to be able to diagnose your treatment needs, identify the underlying cause, and further communicate the impact and help people understand the impact that that injury could have on your life. One really important thing and this goes back to just making sure you do whatever is best for your health; whatever is best for your health, ends up being what's best for a legal case. So if you need to make follow-up appointments because you're still hurting, go to your follow-up appointments. We want to make sure that you make as full a physical recovery as possible.

We also want to make sure that clients are honest with their doctors and for us, honestly doesn't mean not exaggerating. Usually, it means making sure you're not understating anything. That's something we run into a lot; we don't have clients who exaggerate, typically we have clients who will understate and not tell the doctor what's really going on. So make sure they know; be brutally honest with the doctors that they can help. And I also want you to know even if you didn't go to a doctor right away, that doesn't really have any bearing on the legal case, so long as there's a legitimate reason for it. So if you need treatment now, even if it's been a few days, a few weeks, or however long after an accident, just go out and make sure you get the medical care that you need as soon as possible to make sure that you get better and make as full a recovery and as fast a recovery, and also to reduce the long-term effects on your health.
So, bottom line, I can't say it enough: whatever is best for your health, that's what we encourage folks to do. After accidents, that typically ends up being what's best for the legal case and obviously, it serves both your short-term and long-term medical care needs and recovery. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this page. If you have any other questions regarding any type of injury case, reach out to us; we'd love to hear from you and thank you again.
